It's Just an Expression!

Some of my favorite moments from this past week :

When showing the new books, hearing the whole class gasp with excitement...THAT is a great sound.

I shared some new books with everyone that were full of idioms.
I taught the Kindergarten Classes to say, "It's Just an EXPRESSION!".
They learned one or more of these idioms:

'you let the cat out of the bag'
'cold shoulder'
'spill the beans'
'paint the town red'
'got up on the wrong side of the bed'
'egg on your face'

We had a great time!

On Friday, every class that came in got a mini lesson on how to talk like a pirate.
So, I figured you might now need a mini lesson in case they come home and speak pirate at you.

Ahoy! - Hello
Avast! - Stop and pay attention
Aye! - in agreeance
Aye aye! - I'll do it captain
Nay! - No
Me - My
Booty - Pirate Treasure
Shiver Me Timbers - an expression of surprise
Mate or Matey - a friend of a pirate or a fellow pirate
Hearties - Friends
Lubber or Land Lubber - someone who wants to stay on the land
Smartly or Handsomely - Quickly
Savvy? - You know?

My nephews always say, "I'm going to cut you to ribbins!"

I'm going to cut and paste the mini lesson on pirate talk, just in case Thayne starts picking it up from his cousins.

Cute and thanks!!!
